Prayer Shawls
Prayer Shawls/Scarfs - What are they?
These are no ordinary shawls.
They are prayer shawls, and their sole purpose is to bring comfort to those who could use a tangible reminder of the mercy, peace and compassion of God’s all-embracing love.
In this sense, prayer shawls are an expression of the Catholic sacramental imagination, which experiences God in and through created things and the works of human hands.
A prayer shawl begins with the shawl maker saying prayers of peace and blessings for the intended recipient.
The prayers are continued throughout the creation of the shawl.
Upon completion, the ministry group prays together for the recipient and the requestor,
and then the priest gives a final blessing to each shawl.
The recipient receives their prayer shawl full of prayers for comfort and blessings.
